n 1065, Raymond IV inherited the County of Toulouse and quickly turned it into a territorial powerhouse. In the 12th century, the county of Toulouse reached its military and cultural apogee, to such an extent that in 1271 the King of France took fright and had the county annexed to the Kingdom of France.
